Spotify has expanded its Canvas visualization beta program for the ‘most active Spotify for Artists’ users. The company says that adding a ‘high-quality one to a track can increase streams, saves, artist profile visits, and shares’.
Canvas allows artists to create and feature looping visuals in the “Now Playing” area, which Spotify says is the most-viewed location in the Spotify mobile app.
Spotify says that it has been testing the feature with select artists for some time but is now inviting more artists to join the beta.
Once accepted onto the beta program, artists can add Canvas artwork to any track in their catalog.
A new site dedicated to Canvas has also been launched, featuring use cases of Canvas, in addition to more details and resources for artist teams about ‘what Canvas is, why listeners love it, and how to think about your Canvas strategy for new releases and catalog’.
A Canvas Policy Guide has also been posted on Spotify for Artists in addition to a Canvas Metrics Guide, which explains the marketing potential of using visualisations.
According to Spotify, “adding a high-quality Canvas to a track has increased streams by up to 120% and saves by up to 114%, in addition to lifts in artist profile visits and shares’.
“It’s a way to get noticed and build a vision — and an excellent way to share more of who you are with your listeners, hopefully turning them into fans,” writes Spotify in a blog post announcing the beta expansion.
“Adding a Canvas can help keep your listeners hooked; we’ve seen that adding a high-quality one to a track can increase streams, saves, artist profile visits, and shares”.
